Can this really happen to the paint on cars?

I saw this comment on zackscott.net. Now this comment is of a video where Zack Scott is getting his car washed in an automatic pressure washer. It says ';did you know that automatic car washes destroy your paintwork? The high pressure water actually grinds the dirt into the paintwork, and it also causes awful swirl marks'; I want to know if this is true. Here is the website if you guys want to check out the video. It is pretty funny if you have that kind of sense of humor.

Washes like that use just water, it won't scratch your car.

Its the washes with the whirling things that look like outdoor carpet that scratch it up.Can this really happen to the paint on cars?
actually if you don't wax your car after washing or during the time you wash it, it can happen over a long period of time but that would take a very long. the reason for this is because of the quartz and other hard minerals in the dirt and they slowly scratch your paint away as the water pushes them around
