Safe adhesive removal for a car that won't mess up paint job???

I took some of the molding off of my car to give it a smoother look, but now i can't get the adhesive off. I've tried everything...soap, simple green, tar remover, and adhesive remover. It won't come off no matter what i do. Does anyone know what will take it off without messing up my paint job????Safe adhesive removal for a car that won't mess up paint job???
Hairdryer/heat gun. It will soften it and combine this with some of the products others suggested like WD-40 , it should do the trickSafe adhesive removal for a car that won't mess up paint job???
I always use WD40, then wash it the area after to make sure there's none left on the paint just in case. Just spray it on the area, let it sit for a minute, then scrub, repeat a few times if necessary, then wash the area normally.
bug an tar remover , let it sit for about 10 minutes then use warm water to rub off also any house hold cleaner with enzyme will do the trick very well
try ';Goof Off'; sold in grocery stores or walmart, kmart. ect

only about $2
Razor Blade or GOO B GONE. Razor Blade is your best bet.
DO NOT USE A RAZORBLADE to remove the adhesive, if there is a sign supply place near you get something called the lil chisler, it is a very hard piece of plastic that is a scraper best thing in the world, good luck
3M ADHESIVE REMOVER
Bug and Tar Remover, apply and let it soak for a while, keep it wet and it will soften up, and you can purchase a plastic razor blade at the parts store, this will keep you from actually removing paint and just the adhesive. Wash well afterwards and apply an automotive wax, because the bug and tar remover will take off any wax you have applied to the paint as well.
Home Depot sells this stuff called Goof Off. It works great for what you are doing. I would do a small area first to make sure the paint doesn't come off. I use it to remove vinyl letters from cargo vans, and have used it for cleaning the adhesive from rubber molding on my trucks. Never had a problem with paint removal.
goo gone best
no, no, dont do any of that stuff, go get you a rubber wheel, they sell it at the hardware store or auto store, it goes in a drill. it is made exactly for this type of removal. it wont damage the paint as long as you dont press the wheel too hard, if you do you will leave a burn, but you dont go fast with it, basicaly you are erasing the stuff off of the paint.then if there is anything left use some wd40 and it will come right off, then wash the truck with soap w/ degreaser in it and water. good as new.

Trying to find that ';window chalk'; but looks like spray paint & can go on the entire car,not just the window

Go to like Walmart or someting. They will have it.Trying to find that ';window chalk'; but looks like spray paint %26amp; can go on the entire car,not just the window
Not sure if this is the same thing that you have in mind, but I've brought a product that's made by Crayon and it's like a big magic marker......but it's safe to put on just about anything'; car windows, body of the car, sidewalks, house windows, homes, kid's bikes and much much more';.This stuff is washable and can easily be removed with soap and water and it comes in a pack of seven different colors......best part of all, I brought mine from Dollar Tree, but I have seen it in Staples for a whole lot more money. Hope this has helped u out.Trying to find that ';window chalk'; but looks like spray paint %26amp; can go on the entire car,not just the window
Wal Mart. It's called duplicolor car art.

How much would it cost to get decals like the ones on this car painted on mine?

http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm47/HemiCharger2007/new%20rims/IMG_1781.jpgHow much would it cost to get decals like the ones on this car painted on mine?
They aren't painted on. They are like stickers that you place on a clean portion of a car. They will then heat up the stickers with a industrial hair-dryer once the stickers are placed. You could do these yourself but if you do it professional, the majority of the cost would go into the labor. Every place will charge differently, I suggest you call them up if you really want to know instead of asking for an unreliable answer from amateurs and ignorant people who could give you the slightest reliable and constructive answers. How much would it cost to get decals like the ones on this car painted on mine?
you dont paint on decals. they stick on like stickers. look on jcwhitney.com for decals. its where i get all my auto accessories. heres what youre lookin for though http://www.ridergraphix.com/charger.html

looks like itll be a bit over 200 unless you decide to get the rally stripe as well
Depends where you go to get them.....i got mine done at this professional shop for 70$.One pointer, don't go cheap, it mite ruin your car if u don't like them anymore and decide to take them off.
um... decals are stickers... not paint. but if u want that painted on your car id say around $200
depends where you are some places charge more than others

Legal tints and matte paint jobs for cars?

I live in New Jersey and I want to get tinted windows in my windshield and my font side windows,

1. Can I do this?

2. What are the legal limits?

3. Do people tint their front side and not their back sides? Is that normal?

4. I was searching ';black matte painting'; for cars but I only seemed to get results in Europe! Can I get this done in New Jersey?Legal tints and matte paint jobs for cars?
';I want to get tinted windows in my windshield';

No.

2. Call a shop and ask.

3. Yes, but it looks ridiculous.

4. You can paint a car any color you want. Just tell them you want flat black.Legal tints and matte paint jobs for cars?
The regs for window tinting are different in most states. Therefore it would be best to consult with a specialty body shop doing this as they would know the regs. One other thing is to sit in several vehicles with different levels of tint so you can actually see the effects of the tinting on light loss. This is critical at night as the tinting reduces amount of reflected light thereby making more objects harder to see in the dark.

Matte paint on the exterior of a vehicle is not a good idea. It is hard to clean and keep clean and also increases drag. If it's what you really want then ok. Most body shops can do this type of paint job.
tinting the windshield is illegal and anything over 50% light is illegal when tinting but i have never been pulled over for my illegal tint

    Paint for a a car?

I have a 91 toyota camry and i wanted to buy paint on e-bay. but i dont know how much to buy. should i buy a gallon? should i buy a pint? what should i do? and what is the best type of paint. I dont want spray paint NOOOOO i want nice paint... which is the best kind? PLEASE HELP. and how do i sand my car? do they sell stuff for that on wall-mart?

-Angela OchoaPaint for a a car?
Its a lot of work. I have done everything on my '71 Buick Riviera, but I left the paint and body to the pros. I bought PPG paint from a specialty store. It was $600 a gallon and my big car needed 2 gallons. That plus good clear coat was $290. Primer, bondo, sandpaper and various other related costs brought the total to $2000 just for materials. I then paid 3k for labor. I would go to Maaco if you want a cheap paint job for an old car. I got a paint job that will look great for 10-20 years. I don't think you will have that camry that long.Paint for a a car?
    house of kolor

no i havnt spelt it wrong lol
if you a realy serious about painting your car you need some prep work...like buying how to books from peterson publications....it would be better to go to your local auto parts for paint and materials...as they are pro's and will set you up with everything you need! also todays paints are very dangerous! you need an outside air source to avoid lung and nerve damage! like i said YOU need to read a lot before painting! but dont be afraid you can do it! remember the best paint job will look horrable without good body prep!
go to your local Toyota Dealership and ask them. They will point you in the right direction.

Also check your local auto parts store for automotive paint.

Need help with paint job on my car!!!!?

I bought a 95 white honda civic. the previous owner painted the car dark purple. i think he painted it over the white. now u can see some of the white paint. how do i get the car white again??Need help with paint job on my car!!!!?
Sand and repaint.Need help with paint job on my car!!!!?
Take it to maaco. Explain the problem and they will give you a free estimate on how much it will cost.

If thats not in your price range, you are going to need to properly sand all the paint of. Cover it with a primer coat or two, and then paint it over with high quality auto paint. However if you do it yourself, i guarantee it will not look professional. It's a very hard process.
The paint has to be stripped and re-painted. In my area, to do a complete paint job is $2,000.
    Sand, prime, repaint

    Paint estimate for my car?

i want to paint my 1998 saturn sl2 atleast 2 different colors. i've been trying to research today, but every body shop is closed of course! was just wondering if u guys would know a rough estimate.Paint estimate for my car?
there are so many ways to look at this.. repainting is cheaper than a new car but if the car runs good go for it but the price is hard changing colors will cost you the most if you do it right. or if you open the door or trunk it will be a different color my thought to you is to pick the same color or a shade real close so you have to only paint the skin and throw in some nice pin stripping .. but if money is no object shoot for the moon a fair repaint about 450 a good one about 950 choice one starts about 2500 and go up from there..*****Paint estimate for my car?
A properly performed paint job by competent workers using good materials will be at least $3,000 for an overall job.

The materials alone will be about $700, for a reputable paint manufacturer's budget line.

Any place that quotes you less is probably hiring inexperienced labor, doing a half-assed job, and using cheap material.

A cheap paint job will look good for a year or two, but will eventually loose gloss, craze (crack) and flake.

A properly done paint job will cost more but will last as long as or longer than factory paint.

A cheap paint job winds up being a lot more expensive in the end
1,000 - 2,000 depends on how much you want done

    Overspray paint on black car!?

ok my grandmothers car got overspray on it and of coarse the car is black and the overspray is white so it has a bunch of white dots on it can you tell me some ideas of how to remove it? i have tried polish and it didnt work it has been on the car for about 5 weeks nowOverspray paint on black car!?
did you try polish or a polishing compound?

a polishing/rubbing compound is abrasive so it will remove it

    regular polish isnt

    also try a clay bar

and if you do use a compound, use a microfiber towel so you dont caue scratchesOverspray paint on black car!?
Go to your local paint and body store and get ';Meguires'; Overspray Clay and some ';Meguires'; Final Inspection spray.

You just mist a small area of the panel and wipe the clay over it.

The clay is very sticky and will pull the overspray off.
Overspray is easy to remove. I would recommend going to the place that did the painting and have the staff there correct this issue, or go to a reputable auto body shop for the correction.
sew whoever did it so you can bring it to a shop.!!!!!!!!!!!!
try t-cut, then give it a coat of polish.
clay bar or try some thinner if the clearcoat is still newer.

    Getting paint off my car....?

So, saturday shopping seems to be a bad idea, as I've ruined my car (sort of). As I was parking in a garage, I scraped my shiny red car on a white pole. So there are considerable scratches and white streaks on my car...SO, Whats the best way to get the paint off, and how much does a car paint touch-up cost?Getting paint off my car....?
Had to help my two of my son;s friends with the same problem in the past year. Use goo gone and a Mr clean magice eraser. Just dampen the eraser and use a little pressure white paint and scuffs should come right off.Getting paint off my car....?
Depends on how much white paint you got on there. You may be able to get it off with a goo gone type of product. You can get these in Home depot in the paint department. There's one with a German sounding name, I don't remember the name, but it's supposed to be good. If that doesn't do it some rubbing compound should. You can get that anywhere they sell auto cleaning products, like an auto parts store or Wal mart. You can get the touch up paint at any automotive parts store, shouldn't be more than $10.00
Take your car to a reputable body shop. You will be quite surprised what they can do with some buffing and polishing. After it's buffed and polished, then you can make the decision about having the boo boo touched up.

This is not something I'd try as a DIY project. The clear coat and paints that are used require specific care or you run the risk of seriously damaging them. Ask for an estimate before they start any work. If it seems too high, try another shop. It is probably going to cost you $100 or more for the clean up.

    Car decals ruining my paint?

I put stripes on my 2003 ford mustang and they got all messed up by the sun i think then i took them off and the messed up my paint any suggestions???Car decals ruining my paint?
Stripes??? RICER!!! Haha, c'mon why, stripes? Why anything? SeriouslyCar decals ruining my paint?
You could try a rubbing compound and then a simonize.

You might be better putting more decals over the spot you had them. Any decal or sign will always look different once removed as a result of the sun reflecting on the paint
Never go decal. If you're in to stripes have them painted on by a pro. A decal is a colored piece of plastic/paper with a protective coating and it does just that, protects the paint under it. The only thing is that decals do not last very long. So take your car to a good detail shop and they can get your paint looking right. Why mess up a nice car with junk? Go for the paint.
take your car to a detail shop and ask if they can fix your problem they may be able to buff it right out

Yeah that falls under harasmentCan i get in trouble with my school if i paint a classmate's car as a prank?
No way. Go ahead and do it.
You are looking at not only getting in trouble with school officials but possibly a lawsuit that you parents will be responsible for paying to cover the cost of the damage to the car. I think you and your friends need to grow up. It isn't a joke to damage others property.
    Both school and police.
yea ull get in big trouble ull get detention and maybe even suspension
    DUH!!!! It's called vandalism!!!!!
You can get in trouble with the school if it's on school porperty. I know that for sure. Make sure you might do it somewhere else. Of course you could do it on the school property.. but make sure you don't get caught,, if you don't get caught.. then you're okay. but even then you will probley be breaking a law. Maybe like.. oh .. i dunno.. VANDIMISM OF PROPERTY?! If she doesn't sue then everything is fine.. it's up to you.. just make the right choice.

Maybe use watercolor paints? heh.. i dunno about that one though. f u have her concent then its fine, but seeing as how its a prank then u probably dont, so its not ok no matter how easily the paint washes off its like holding up a bank for a penny its only a penny, but the fact still remains that u held up the bank
you dont do well in school do you?
vandalism....just wrap the whole car in wrapping paper with a big bow
you will get caught and you will die

    use silly string ;D
y would you want to do that? you can get in a lot of trouble
    yes
    do it
Trouble at school would be the least of your worries. When you mess with someones car your butts in trouble with the law.
if u have her concent then its fine, but seeing as how its a prank then u probably dont, so its not ok no matter how easily the paint washes off its like holding up a bank for a penny its only a penny, but the fact still remains that u held up the bank.

    D) Put a tree on it and hide presents there

Anyone ever had their car painted by Maaco? What were the results?

There the biggest waste of money EVER. They do not prepare the car correctly and you will have peeling paint and bubbling paint in about a month even with there most expensive paint job. I have freinds who went there and they were very unhappy. And I thought it looked horrible.Anyone ever had their car painted by Maaco? What were the results?
My sis had her car painted there about a year ago. It looked good for a month, 2 tops then paint started flaking and peeling. and once it starts it doesnt stop. Anyone ever had their car painted by Maaco? What were the results?
I think it all comes down to the particular painter in each of the locations. I've seen cars look like they were painted with a roller, and some that looked like original, so you'll have to do some homework to see which one is best near you. Maybe stop by a few times and check out what they're working on, and see for yourself. Anyone who's good at anything they do (painter or otherwise) shouldn't have a problem with you checking out their previous work before you pay them.

Anyone ever had their car painted by Macco? What were the results?

If you go ahead and do all of the prep work on the car before sending it to maaco it isn't as terrible as it seems. I knew a few people who fully primed the car and taped everything off so all they had to do was spray it and it came out good. The main thing that they don't do is prep the car which is why people usually have issues with them.Anyone ever had their car painted by Macco? What were the results?
Their kinda good, but VERY expensive. I was angry with how much i paid just to paint over a small gash in my door. You should probably go with a local, or third party source (but make them do the painting first).Anyone ever had their car painted by Macco? What were the results?
TOTAL DISASTER!!!!!!!! They use the cheapest paints and preparation techniques so they can save themselves, and you, a higher price. I had a Pinto repainted by them, and it was full of blemishes and paint bubbles. If you love your car, whatever it is, consult with a private body shop that specializes with your particular product. To change the color of a car (if that's what you have in mind) is RARELY worth it. You would need to strip the entire car down to its skeleton to do it right. Good luck!!

Has anyone had their car painted with Maaco?

How much did it cost, did they do a good job, what kind of car was it, with/without collision repair? I want to paint my new Cadillac (no collision damage) but I am at work and can't call to get an estimate. Thanks!Has anyone had their car painted with Maaco?
Ahh! Don't do it! My friend got the most expensive.. I think its like the ambassador or something.. But it was horrible.. There was hair is the paint and started chipping after 3 months!Has anyone had their car painted with Maaco?
My buddy had them paint a truck with minor accident damage... it looked like crap. If you have a new caddy... hire a good auto body shop.
My sister did the 299.00 special. It lasted a bout a year and now looks horrible...faded like a mofo!!!
I would only recommend Maaco if your car has a lousy paint job already. If you've got a rustbucket, you don't have much to lose by trying them. If it's in good shape now, they may make it really bad and you would have to spend more money later to get a real shop to fix it. You said your car was new with no damage, so I wouldn't risk it. Either spend the money to get it done right, if you really want to change the color, or else just leave it the color it is.

I work in a body shop and I've seen lots of paint jobs done by the cheap places and they look terrible after a few years or even right away. Paint refinishing is no joke. There's a reason why the expensive shops charge so much. There are a lot of important processes to insuring a quality finish, and you're not going to get that for $299.
Their paint jobs are passable, but you get what you pay for. For $250, they'll paint over your car's present finish, which is not the best way to do it.
my family has had at least 3 cars painted by maco (not with)

none had body work done, and when they have a sale their prices generally START at $250.00 but there are always

extras to consider, including door jams if you're changing the color, nothing like a white paint job with red door jams.

there are many variables. you must take the car there to discus what needs to be done.(what you want)

all shops don't always give the same quality jobs

we were very satisfied with the three last cars we had painted by them and when all was said and done they ranged

in price from about $600.00 to $800.00 FOR WHAT WE WANTED. 1 car is a 1989 buick riv. 1 car is 1990 buick

century, the 3rd car is a 1993 pontiac grand am. we still have all three cars and as far as we're concerned they've all held up well. we live in new jersey and so we took all three cars to the shop in TURNERSVILLE, New Jersey. good luck to ya
they are kind of high not good body work.
No cause those bastards tried to rip me off... They're overpriced... PURE MARKETING
Not sure of price or anything but 2 people i know had theres done by maaco and said they've had to take it back due to air bubbles and said they would never use them again.

Consequence, if any, for a student painting their teachers car a different color?

prob expusion. unless they wanted it and or liked it. haha. also, how laid back the teacher is. but still, its still pretty intense to do something like that w/o their permission.

would you want someone doing that to your car w/o your permission? look at it that way.Consequence, if any, for a student painting their teachers car a different color?
Yes, it's called vandalism and you could face criminal charges. Now, if you are doing it as a surprise and doing it properly because the car needs to be refinished and you know your teacher wants a paint job, your teacher may be very happy. I would suggest, under those circumstances, you would go to the school auto shop (or a local trade school) and see if you could get a good price to have it done. I would be absolutely sure of what color the teacher would want it painted and perhaps present a model of a car, painted the approximate color, wrapped in a package. Then explain that this is a gift and arrangements are being made for you (the teacher) to take it to whatever shop you chose for the work.Consequence, if any, for a student painting their teachers car a different color?
Most likely she would report you to the principal if she found out, and you might get a suspention. You might also get fined for the damaged.
I'm sure it depends on the school and their rules...

What takes paint off??I have a late model car and I backed into a Yellow Post. It left some ugly yellow paint on my gold fender.?
Auto parts carries stuff just for that. I, personally, used nail polish remover when that happened to me. Took it off, and just added wax. Looks good as new.I have a late model car and I backed into a Yellow Post. It left some ugly yellow paint on my gold fender.?
go to your local auto store and get a lite grit rubbing compound and t rub it in the yellow paint and it will come off the buff it out with a soft cloth
Rubbing compound. Use large circular strokes as not to take off the car paint. Then rub out well with a quality wax, like Carnuba.

  • What comes first when painting a car?

ok heres the deal .. im going to spray paint my car flat black using spray cans.. im going to sand the car down but now im confused cuz i dont know what steps comes first.. is it sand, spray then prime? or sand, prime then spray? and what kind of primer should i get if im using flat black?? .. just doing this now for lil bit till next summer comes then sand it all over again and get it professional done. What comes first when painting a car?
You obviously don't own a Lamborghini!

If what is on the car now is in fair shape (meaning not peeling, rusty etc.) your easiest option would be to use Comet and a green nylon scrub pad. Rinse well after that and shoot the black! The scrubbing will clean, as well as scuff your existing finish so the flat black will adhere.

    The actual steps would really be more like;

    Wash,

    Sand (possibly strip),

    Seal,

    Prime,

    Sand,

    Body repair,

    Prime,

    Block sand,

    Prime,

    Finish sand (wet or dry),

    Then top coat!

What comes first when painting a car?
don't do it ..it will only cause more trouble and Higher cost when you so get it done at a auto body shop... spray paint don't have a hardener and it don't sand good .. so it will take longer to strip . you can't put automotive paint over spray paint. save you money and get it done by a pro to start with. I have been a automotive painter for 10 years...
If you are going to get it done by a pro next year don't do anything to it just wait till next year and let them take care of it.But if you must

    1 wash

    2 sand

    3 prime

    4 paint
ok if you have paint on the car already all you got to do is just lightly sand it and then spray away you don't need primer unless you have bare metal showing

My car has 2 tiny rusted areas. I saw a paint chip starting to flake?

then I noticed another about 4 inches away from the one I noticed first. Is there a way to stop this rusting?? The car is a 1997 Saturn. What can I do? Please help. Thanks! My car has 2 tiny rusted areas. I saw a paint chip starting to flake?
you can get a product called POR-15 that you can paint over the rust and it won't get any worse than what it is, it seals out air to it and moisture, only comes in black and gray and costs $35,00 a pint.My car has 2 tiny rusted areas. I saw a paint chip starting to flake?
    its time to get macco
Take it to a reputable body shop for an estimate.
Unfortunately small rust spots can mean larger problems under the paint. This might not be the case with your car but it is old. Seek help from a professional.. a couple of quotes could surprise you on the price to fix it
You'd have to take it to an autobody place and have them sand it out, but its going to be colstly. I say just trade it in on something a little classier than a saturn or ride it till the wheels fall off.

Whats the cheapest amount u can get a paint job on your car.?

yea your gonna wanta avoid a cheap paint job. their cheap for a reason. make sure you get it done by a reputable shop even if it is significantly more expensive. that way you woln't risk it getting rusty especially if you live anywhere other than so cal or fl or haveing to buy a new paint job every 2 yearsWhats the cheapest amount u can get a paint job on your car.?

Trust me you don't want a cheapo paint job. Been there done that and never again!!!
I would say a real good 250$-500$. But dont do it unless its very very bad paint.
i saw where you can get a paint job at maaco for $299. thats the cheapest i know of. hope that helped.
DEPENDS ON THE SURFACE AREA OF THE CAR AND THE COST OF A CAN OF KRYLON, OH AND THE AMOUNT OF COATS YA PUT ON IT

Car wax, dull re-painted bumper, whats the best way to shine it up??

i have a bumper that was repainted on my car and its kinda dull, so what is the best thing to do it (wax? buff? %26amp; what is the best wax to use on the bumper?).Car wax, dull re-painted bumper, whats the best way to shine it up??
I agree with Paul S, also if the bumper is very dull, you can try to paint it with an aerosol can of high gloss clear lacquer or clear coat. You can buff and wax it without damaging (more) your old paint. If you want to go aggressive, you can try sanding all the paint and use a can of paint like those of dupli-color, following by clear coat.

Remember to wash well the car before beginning any work.Car wax, dull re-painted bumper, whats the best way to shine it up??
Yes you can get it buffed or you could try a light automotive cutting polish and some elbow grease. The cutting polish comes in different strengths, you only want a weak strength type to begin with but you can generally get what you need from an auto mart type places or even most gas stations will have what you need but will be a bit more expensive.

Once you are happy with the finish you can then wax away.

    Either should do the trick.

    Good Luck

I want to re-paint my toyota sedan car.Pls. advise the genuine way to do so.?

I want to know about the rust-proof coating and the color. Any brand name? Pls. sugest.I want to re-paint my toyota sedan car.Pls. advise the genuine way to do so.?
You don't state the age of your vehicle. Usually, it is cheaper to trade the vehicle in to get one of a different color. If you have a vehicle repainted then go to sell it, buyers will want to pay less, thinking it was damaged in an accident, or there is some cover-up going on.

How much do you want to spend? To do the job right, you would have to remove doors, trunk lid, hood and all other removable parts to paint all of the sheet metal the same color. It could cost $3,500.00 to do it correctly and not have it show as a re-paint.I want to re-paint my toyota sedan car.Pls. advise the genuine way to do so.?
If it was made here in the U.S. they used clear coat paint which is crap. I would buy airplane stripper, and strip off paint to metal. Then paint primer, and use a enamel paint like in Japan. Enamels are sold for tractors. Enamel will last.

Cost of a regular paint job for a car??

i want to paint an acura integra a solid blue color how much will it costCost of a regular paint job for a car??
it really depends on who you get it done by, if they give u a good deal or not, and if they will do a good job or not.. but i would say around $500 if not more

How do i get water spots off of my cars paint?

I think the water spots you are talking about are the ones that are embedded in your paint from your car sitting outside when it rains then the sun comes out and dries the water into your paint. The best way to remove it is with a mild rubbing compound and a electric buffer, then put your wax on after your done buffing. How do i get water spots off of my cars paint?
Dry it when you get done washing it then wax it. They have dry rags at Auto stores that ring out dry and dont leave a mess on you carHow do i get water spots off of my cars paint?
You could use a buffing compound to remove the spots, each time you wash your car you should always dry it with a high quality chamois, this will help with water spots.
If you dry your car after you wash it then water spots won't be a problem. However if you didn't and your car is dry and water spotted then try a spray on quick detail product. Many products are out there. I prefer Meguiar's Quick Detailer. Spray on and wipe off. Usually takes care of spots in one application. Stubborn spots might need to be sprayed twice.

Can pinstripes of a car be painted?

also, if we bought new pinstripes from an autoshop, would its quality be the same, worse, or better than the OEM pinstripes? also, would there be any physical differences in looks of aftermarket and OEM pinstripes? Differences that would probably make one want to stick with the OEM stripe? thanks. Can pinstripes of a car be painted?
Yes they can be painted on the vehicle. High end body shops always paint the pin striping on the show cars they build. After the final clear-coating of the paint. the pinstripe is then seamless with the rest of the paint.

Most aftermarket and OE pin striping is the plastic colored tape and is way cheaper than the painted version. There would be no difference the aftermarket or OE plastic striping. Can pinstripes of a car be painted?
Ok first i don't know anyone who puts factory pinstripe anymore. Second the preferred method is to get it painted on if you like it. You can also by the 3m';factory'; stick on pinstripe at almost every parts dealer.
After-market ones don't stick as well. Original ones might even be painted on.

i own a shop and i have painted a lot of plastic stuff lately like bumper skins and stuff,id wait for at least 2-3 weeks at the the least so the paint has enough time to cure out on it,then you can wash and wax it ,it will cure out a lot faster on plastic than metal anyway,so id give it that amount of time, you can wash it before then though ,just don't use no real strong soap on it,good luck with it hope this helps.I just had some plastic accessories for my car painted.?

How did they get dirty so fast to need washing and waxing already?
I would advice 24 to 48 hrs.and when you wash your car make sure you use a soft Brush .I would not recommend washing your car at a car wash the brushes are old and can scratch your car.I work at a body shop and car dealership in Ohio.
Allow the paint to cure, dry fresh paint is considered Green and can not be waxed... washing should not hurt it unless you use some type of harsh detergent..
Usually you can wash %26amp; wax newly painted plastic in 24 hours, maybe longer weather permitting.

My BF told me not to take the Porshe through the car wash because it ruin the paint, what's wrong with paint?

Please explain why an automatic car wash would hurt the paint. My BF told me not to take the Porshe through the car wash because it ruin the paint, what's wrong with paint?
There is nothing wrong with the paint on the Porshe. The problem is that car washes do damage to paint jobs whether it is a Bentley or a Kia. The ones with the brushes will leave microscopic scriches in the paint that will allow water and other elements to further damage the paint job. Touchless ones don't always remove all the cleansing agents and again can corrode the paint job. With run of the mill cars (ones 95% of us drive) owners don't really care. A Toyota with imperfections in the paint is still just a Toyota and most feel the effort taken to hand wash the car is more valuable than the paint job. Your boyfriend bought a Porshe because... well I don't know but after spending that kind of money he wants it to look as good as possible for as long as possible. My BF told me not to take the Porshe through the car wash because it ruin the paint, what's wrong with paint?
A Porsche is an expensive car with an expensive car wash. The above posts are correct, you really need to baby it. However, a good paint job that is well taken care of will last the life of the car.

Also remember that most of the automatic car washes merely ';filter'; the water and recycle it. You don't know what is spraying on your precious girl. ;(
You need to only go with touch free washes. The regular car wash collect dirt on those hangy things that scrub the car and that scratches the finish. Plus they use cheep wax and your bf might want to stay with something a little more high quality. If your picky, it's better to just wash the car at home.
i would not take a porche thru a car wash, unless its touchless

Switch your phone for one that is free or very inexpensive. You can get a lot of very cool cell phones for $50 these days. All the providers are trying to prevent you from switching to AT%26amp;T and buying the iPhone so they will be giving good phones away to keep you as a customer.

As far as your black Mitsubishi is concerned. You can get it painted for free. There is a serious problem associated with black paint on Mitsubishi cars. Take it back to the dealer.Phone or paint job on car?? 600 dollars?
I would keep using the phone I had and save up to fix my car.
Hmm...a 3 year old phone, while it may be working now, probably won't have much life left in it. If you haven't already, you'll definately at least need to change the batter very soon.

Why not switch to maybe a different provider (if you're near the end of your contract, or find out how much you'd have to pay to get out of it), get a new free phone, (some plans/phone even give you money back, in addition to the free phone...my Cingular plan gave me my Sony Ericsson w810i walkman phone for free and $100 extra back) and still get the paint job?

The new paint job will raise the value of the car, so that's an investment, whereas the phone isn't...if that first option doesn't work out, maybe look at it this way. You can always get used phones on eBay.
you could upgrade your phone for free (check with your provider). then save up for the paint job.

How can i protect my new cars paint (black), from the sun??

just bought a new car, and i chose it black from the dealer, thing is that i live in an area where there is over 100 degrees during the day in the summer, is there some wax or carwash i can use to protect it??How can i protect my new cars paint (black), from the sun??
    1. Go to the store, get some stuff to wash the car. Also, pick up a claybar. Get some good soap, some paint sealer, and some good wax.

    2. Suds the car up really well, then claybar the car. This removes any contaminates from the factory (fallout) and anything else on there aside from paint. Read the directions and use it accordingly. Lots of suds for lube.

    3. Finish washing the car.

    4. Apply sealer (most I think you have to let wait to dry for a few hours, read the directions. The more coats you put, the better it will look )

    5. Apply wax.

This will help protect your car from the sun, as well as dirt and such. How can i protect my new cars paint (black), from the sun??
This is called SIMONIZ. Search it on the net. They wash your car with a special wax that opens up the pores to your clearcoat. They then apply the simoniz in a wax form. Simoniz is basically a Teflon material that bonds to your paint, kinda like Teflon on a frying pan. If you buy this through a dealer it also comes with a 5 year warranty which grantees against paint fading. Usually this process cost about 397 for the interior and exterior. I personally have had it on 2 cars and it really works. A good deal on this stuff would be about 250$. Good luck
You need to get some really good wax like Mothers, Meguire's or Turtle Wax...they are really good waxes to use...you can always cover it too...
store it inside and keep it clean and waxed
Garage, carport or tarp is best. If you get a fitted tarp you can take it with you and cover your car at work if you don't have access to covered parking.

Any helpful tips/links are also appreciated. When painting a model car, should I prime everything?
Generally, the body gets the primer. Adding it to smaller parts hides details. Another secret is, shoot light layers multiple times. A single heavy coat will open the door to runs and drips. Use a bent coat hanger to hold the body while painting, that way your fingers don't put body oils on the model. When painting a model car, should I prime everything?
I prime ALL parts of every model, particularly the metal bits !!

Stephen is correct though to recommend LIGHT thin coats.

Make sure you prime (and paint) in a dust-free, well-ventilated area at the correct temperatures.

Painting a car; What type of compressor ( HP, volume) is required when using an HPLV sprayer. %26amp; can I rent one
all your pressure and delivery requirements should be with the gun when ya get it,,,,,

I think ';HPLV'; stands for high pressure low volume,,, but I'm not sure,,,,,

if it is a gravity feed gun ya can probably get by with a compressor that will deliver at least 50 # pressure,, and maintain at least 35# while painting

if ur using a syphon gun and are shootin metalic paint,,, ya want a consistant 50# at the gun tip while painting,,,,,

My new car has a small scratch.. paint got removed. how do i repaint with low cost?

Go to the dealer and get what they call factory color Vehicle Touch Up Paint they come in small bottles with a brush almost like nail polish matched to your cars color for really cheap i'm pretty sure they are no more than $15. Or you can go to autozone/kragen and they have the same stuff. My new car has a small scratch.. paint got removed. how do i repaint with low cost?
';Duplicolor paint';, available in ';spray can';, or ';paint stick'; (similar to fingernail paint brush inside)!

Available at many auto parts supply stores, and WalMart! They will have a ';paint matching chart';,-- if you know the color, just look for right can,-- if not there is a ';color code'; on tag somewhere on firewal of vehicle (under hood),--usually on drivers side about 8-10'; from top!My new car has a small scratch.. paint got removed. how do i repaint with low cost?
You didn't mention if the scratch went all the way to the meal or not so I'm going to assume it didn't.

With that in mind, take a mind compund like Meguire's makes and rub gently around the spot and into the scratch with a terry cloth rag. After you have completed this process wax the spot and you should be fine. Try this before you use touch up paint or anything like that that never looks as good as you hoped.

  • Are there any websites that teach step by step car painting for free?

vw beetle paintingAre there any websites that teach step by step car painting for free?
way too many things involved to learn on the fly from a website.

In its very basic form, these are the things to consider. first of all what type of paint? Basecoat? Lacquer? Enamel? etc.

then temperature and clean environment is necessary. Then no petroleum products in the air. So if you have a garage that has oil on the floor, that will hurt paint job.

clean car with correct product to assure clean body panels. when you taped the car and leaned your hand on that spot, the paint will react there and ruin your paint job. Even though you didnt know you did it.

The most important is paint technique. This cannot be taught but learned from trial and error. the gun, the speed, the distance away from car, how to handle runs, dry spots, orange peel. clean and dry air at gun is so important.

good luck. practice on something else first.

Small paint chip in bumber of a rental car??

i rented a car this past weekend and when i parked i over shot and hit a car infront of me. a rock from the snow truck kind of put a small chip in the bumber. (like the size of a sharpy dot or marker dot) The counter at the airport was closed so i couldnt tell them. what will they do if they notice it? will they make me pay for it? will they charge my credit card?Small paint chip in bumber of a rental car??
Yea, best thing you can do is NOT tell them. I know it sounds bad, but they do understand that some things will happen to the cars they rent out; if they don't say anything, then neither should you.Small paint chip in bumber of a rental car??
they might, i'd have suggested touching it up with a touch up pen or marker...
Even if they DO notice and have it fixed and put it on your card, it wont be very expensive, so don't worry about it.

It's pretty much normal wear and tear. They may not even care.
Go by your local autozone type store and get them to find you a touch up paint marker to cover it with. A couple of dollars there may save you more when you turn it in. If you can't see any damage I wouldn't report it.

Acrylic or 2 pack paint on my car?

hey guys im gettin my 1974 vj valiant charger spray painted and was wondering if i should get it done in 2 pack or acrylic its not going to be used as a show car more for a drive car not everyday but most daysAcrylic or 2 pack paint on my car?
Cool. I had a '73 Valiant. But it was just a beater.

Re: Paint; if you can afford it and your spray guy has the proper equipment, go for the 2-pack. Otherwise you'll have to spend a lot of time polishing up the acrylic so that it stays looking good, and the color is going to fade anyway. If you're going to need any touch-ups in three or four years, the 2-pack will match perfectly but the acrylic will probably have to be color matched.

PS, Base coat / clear coat is not the same thing as 2-pack. 2-pack contains two resins that harden when mixed (40 minutes!). Older paints use a solvent (50% as sprayed) to carry the color, then they ';dry'; as the solvent evaporates.Acrylic or 2 pack paint on my car?
i just had a'84 dodge ramcharger repainted a'62-64 gm color that i once had,i let my painter talk me into converting the acrylic to base/clear 2 stage and the color did not come out the same,it's ok but not what i had in mind,if i had it to do over i'd stay acrylic, just one point of view
depend's what colour you wanted and how original you wanted to keep the car i guess. acrylic for originality two pack for cool colours. i could be wrong, paint isn't my trade

Will this hurt the paint on a car?

    so i got

    -honey

    -vinegar

    -sardines

    -molasses

    -lipstick

    -butter

    all over my car.

will this damage any of it??Will this hurt the paint on a car?
Modern car paint is very durable, and you should be fine. However, the sooner you wash it off, the better.

Most of it should wipe off with just a soapy sponge. For the honey and molasses, soak some paper towels or rags in warm water and lay them over the stuck on stuff; it will thin it out and make rubbing it off easier. Makeup remover will take off the lipstick, then wipe that off with soapy water. Will this hurt the paint on a car?
Wash that off the car ASAP. Some of it is oily and will require soap, for that either use soap for washing cars, or a mild hand dishwashing soap like Ivory liquid. The longer it's on there, the more harm it will do.
The only item on your list that might hurt your paint would be vinegar. Vinegar has been used before to remove the old finish off gun metal before refinishing. Everything else you mentioned should be ok.
Yes you had better clean the car with brake fluid NOW
no it shouldnt, but bologna peels paint off cars if its in the sun

9 cans won't even come close to a entire car.

Take it back, get your money back,

You can buy enough in bulk to do the car for less than what you will spend on cans to do the front clip.

    ________________________________________鈥?br>

You need an air compressor, a paint gun, and primer and activator, and paint thinner and tape.

You can go to most cheap tool stores and get a cheap paint gun for around $15-$20.

You can get a gallon of primer for about $50 and activator for $15,

Paint thinner is like $8/gal. You only need one gal sinse you will chunk the gun when done.

You can get tape for $6/roll, One should be enough for a okay job.

Get automotive tape, the houshold stuff will never come off your car

try if u can to get 300.00 and buy a pint of primer and a pint of paint and rent a spray booth or rent a cup gun and compressor and use a garage.

i have seen total amatures get a decent finish but other wise use a paint prep after sanding (rubbing compound) and make sure you are well masked off and use wet sand paper after the first primer coat.
    You will regret it.

The primer absorbs water like a sponge because of the way the paint powder lays on the car.

Your better off to tape the car off...(trim the tape perfectly in with a razor blade)

and roll with a cigar roller with a gloss grey paint.

Thats a cheap way of doing it.....
Once you have it as smooth as you can get it ,then prime it,now that u have it primed look to see if u see any waves that might need to be sanded out, if not go ahead and paint it.
no not enough and be for you lay the primer you need to scuff you car they make special stuff but use a brilo pad type deal to scuff the whole car down then by like 5 more cans good luck.

It's usually called bug and tar remover, sold in spray bottles at places like target, auto parts stores, walmart, etc. It should be like $3.99. Spray it on, wait, and then wipe off. For harder tar/tree sap on your auto paint, you may need to wet it, use the remover, and then scrape the rest off with your fingernail (if you just scrape back and forth while wet it won't affect your paint).
sandpaper or steel wool. Better yet, power washer at 10,000psi stream bit....or, several layers of bologna!!! Yep, all should do the trick!
use caravan cleaner designed for caravans as they get sap on them and go green cant remember name but caravan supplier will stock it or autoshop great stuff works well also takes off black rubber marks as on window seals of caravans as it runs down paintwork when raining causing marks on paint
try WD-40 and a rag and then when all off you will need to re-wax the vehicle.

Walmart has these vinyl and leather repair kits. They're made by a company called ';Permatex';. I've used this kit several times for repairing vinyl stuff.

It comes with coloured fillers which you can mix to the desired shade to match whatever you're fixing.

It's perfectly legal to change your car's color, but you'll need to go to the DMV and update your registration.Paint job on car?
Your car can be any color that you want it to be. Updating the registration is very important. Reason, a friend of mine had his car impounded, the meter maid thought the plates where off a similar car. The color on the registration was gray and he went to a Perl. Being an under paid city watchmen the idiot never bothered to check the VIN of the car and just had it towed. His excuse was the color was different then what was on the plate information. So PLEASE have the color changed in the DMV computer...

Is rustproof and paint sealant worth getting for cars in states with winters?

Long story short, I just bought a 2007 Camry. Now, my question is, should I be getting the rust proof and paint sealant for my car since I live in a state that has winters? I am not sure if it is worth it or not... Just wondering what most people think and if most people got it for their brand new cars as well. Everything, rust proof and paint sealant is around 600, not including tax at Toyota. Is rustproof and paint sealant worth getting for cars in states with winters?
Never pay for these add ons. It's pure profit for the dealer and nothing you have to have.

Your 2007 Camry has a 5 year unlimited mileage corrosion warranty that will protect your car against rust. And as long as you keep the car properly washed and waxed, you never have to worry about the clearcoat on the car. Paint sealant is a complete rip off.

Don't pay for something that comes free with the car. Don't let the salesman talk you into this unless he's willing to provide the service free of charge. And if it's already added on to the price of the car, make them take off the charges before you sign the contract. Is rustproof and paint sealant worth getting for cars in states with winters?
Its worth it in any state, Do it yourself if you like.

My car door was just painted and does not match?

My car was just painted on the door and up close it looks good BUT from far away the newly painted door does not match the rest of the car... I know it needs 4 to 10 weeks to completely cure but my question is once it does, will it get lighter and match the rest of the car or will it now always be darker? My car door was just painted and does not match?
If it does not match right now, it never will and you should take it back to be re accomplished. You paid or your insurance paid good money for this repair and you deserve to get what you paid for.My car door was just painted and does not match?
It should lighten a bit with time...if it doesn't then you need to go back and talk to the people who painted it.. Most people have a color match guarantee.. You should look into it.. But I wouldn't worry about it too much! Wait a few more weeks! :) But I do suggest calling them and at least asking THEM! Then tell them they will hear from you in a few weeks if it doesn't conform!
so long as the paint color that was used matches the car and was the correct manufacture code color then the colour should lighten to match. please be aware that car paint can take anything up too 4 days to properly dry from time painted
you can repaint the door, or paint the car the same colour
You old paint will have faded, try using colour restorer on the rest of the car to polish it back to its original colour.
It will never match, take it back to whoever painted it and make them redo it to match, a good painter can match it.

    Paint job on car?

Approximately how much would it be to get a paint job on a brand new front bumper to replace my old one on a 99 grand prixPaint job on car?
If you're getting a brand new bumper to begin with, shop around or at least ask the folks if they have the right color one already in stock.

It might cost a little more for the right bumper but it's worth a shot, I believe your car's color should be printed on some sticker, but either way all the bumpers for the same car ought to be at least the color of one of the several factory specs (and there aren't but so many colors used on any specific make and model).

Other than that, yeah, 300-400.Paint job on car?
Approximately $400.00 for material, labor and taxes in the Washington, DC area.
On a bumper, you shouldnt pay more than $200
estimates are free at all reputable body shops, go get your yellow pages.
take it to a paint shop. tell them this is out of pocket can the give you a fair price?
If you already have the bumper to replace the old one with you can take you car to a local paint supply ( auto paint) and he can mix you a pint or two of paint to match you car perfectly. Then you just wet sand your new bumper with 320 grit paper until you get all of the gloss off from the release agent and pour your paint in a spray gun and have a blast painting your bumper. Just spray lightly from about 18 to 24 inches away to prevent runs. It should only take you a couple of hours to sand and paint and you saved a boat load of money by doing it yourself. Paint has gotten expensive though so don't be shocked what a pint or two cost. It's outrageous.
i own a shop, and paint and supplies and labor all together will cost you around 350 bucks total on that one,it wouldn't be so ad if wasn't for the increase in paint prices, they have almost doubled in the past year or so,but you can bet on at least around 350 bucks to get it done right ,good luck,i hope this help,s.
make sure when it is painted that a good place do it. ABS plastic can't be just painted over. They have to use what is called a flexable primer to prime the surface and the clear coat has to have flex agent added to it . You can probably have it painted for 100.00 bucks but that would be the wrong way. if you bump anything the paint will chip off, even a pressure washer from the car wash will strip it. Ask these questions so they at least think you know what your talking about. Exspect to pay aroud 300.00 to have it done the right way. Usally places that do collision repair do it the right way. While you ES and Macco's won't.

  • What are the pros and cons of metallic paint on cars?

Metallic paint generally looks better than a flat colour but it is far more difficult to match if its damaged. usually its made up of several different coats, a base coat, a second coat with a metallic speckle, in it and finally a lacquer top coat. The problem comes because air pressure in the spray gun, temperature and amount of paint built up can all change the colour. What are the pros and cons of metallic paint on cars?
    Pro's- Looks great

Cons- harder to paint a car, then to do touch up, and match if need later on. I would still get metallic if I had any of my vehicles painted. What are the pros and cons of metallic paint on cars?
if it chips the lacquer peels
Pros: It looks good and hides the dirt well.

Cons: It costs more to repair in if scratched or dented.
Nicer finish but a pig to touch up if scratched..........

    Paint for my car?

i want to put some stripes on my car

if i paint with that spray paint thats for scratches will it look ok or what kind of paint can i use for the exterior of my carPaint for my car?
go get some decals for it cheaper and you can always remove them laterPaint for my car?
If you are going to try to do it yourself and have never tried it before, you would be safer to go with pinstriping tape. If you can't find the color you want and must go with paint, I would suggest for a beginner to go to an automotive paint store and buy some striping tape. They make rolls of tape that have multiple pull out strips in it. You basically roll the entire tape on your car and then pull out the pieces that you want to make the thickness or multiple stripes that you want. Then mask the car off with masking paper and tape to avoid overspray and you can use automotive spray paint out of spray can carefully to paint the stripes. Wait for the paint to dry properly before removing the tape to leave the stripe on your car.

It sounds like a lot of work, but it is safer than trying to free hand paint and make mistakes.

    Good luck.

Bad choice of colors if you're worried about scratches. They make wax specially for black paint and you can get it at most auto parts stores. Light reflects from black straight at you(so for will notice more imperfections) white the opposite.
Ifyou did not shoot clear on it then you can use rubbing compound to smooth out the scratches and then apply paste wax and then whenever you want to remove anything; be careful and always use a shammy.(Chamois)
elbow gress and alot of it along with some good old fasino wax

and now back to the programme...

first DA the whole panel, its metallic, so blending is a nightmare... easier to spray the whole panel and polish the adjoining ones... or its going to look shi t.

    mask up...

use a 160grit to start, and goto about a 320, tack rag the panel... primer the panel, flat it with 400, by hand! (let it dry for an hour or so, and GENTLY with lots of soap and water, flat it... wash it, and dry it... (use hard soap on the flatting paper, NOT fairy liquid in the water)

spray basecoat, abd flat again, and spray the colour... and laquer and polish again...

if you use cellulose it will require a polish afterwards to get rif of any overspray... 2 packs dont require polishing afterwards... but.. its all in the prep... its got to be flat... no ripples, no nothing... or itll stand out the moment you hit it with some colour...

Any suggestions other than helping my son find an apartment?Spray paint residue on my car!!!!!!!!?
You might try a little brake clean - spray it into a rag and wipe the paint off. It will also remove any and all wax at the same time, so be sure to clean and wax the car after wards.

I've never had brake clean damage the painted surface of a vehicle other than it dulls the shine, which returns after it is re-waxed - but just to be sure, try a little on a hidden spot first and wipe it down.

Do NOT use brake clean on any plastic or vinyl parts.Spray paint residue on my car!!!!!!!!?
just give a light wipe over with a cloth that has cellulose thinners on it, that should do the trick, then polish off straight away.

try it on the chrome first, i recon the paint will be ok though.
rag and gasoline will take it off easily and won't hurt the paint but you will need to wax the car when your done.

Toyotas and Hondas all seem to rust faster than American cars, so you might consider it.
No- not worth it. Save your $ for gas.

The only place you see rust is any place that you get a ding in the paint.

I have a 2003 Toyota Prius, only rust is a place where there is a ding that knocked the paint off.

I have a 1999 Nissan Maxima that is just now showing some signs of rust around the undercarriage - car has 175K+ miles on it.
I've use ';dealer'; rust proofing and a national chain (Zebart) treatment. I live in northern Minnesota where the roads are white with salt. On the new truck with no treatment, it started showing rust in 4-5 years. With dealer rust proofing I got 4-5 years. The only decent results I got was with the Zebart (sp?) product. Truck looked new when I sold it with 80,000 miles after 5 years. It will still rust, but it seems to slow it down by 2 or 3 years.

I've heard it can be bad for your car. Sounds counterintuitive, but it was explained to me that the process can clog small drainage holes in the undrecarriage where water is engineered/designed to drain. Then if the water has nowhere to drain, it will sit and then start rusting. Its not so much psi as really the cfms that matter for you idiots out there that is cubic feet per minute.I'm going to do a paint on a car job please help?
you can go less but just type into search box the info you want like how to set paint spray gun pressure

    how to paint car

things like that should get you the info you need i think 125 is way to much more like 80 or 90 pounds
your probably using a siphon feed gun which is around 50psi. If your using a HVLP it is around 20-25psi depending on tip sizes of both guns and type of paint enamel or base clear
You should not need that much pressure on a siphon feed gun to paint with,,, the actual pressure in the compressor tank may run that high, but there should be a regulator on the line coming out of the compressor so You can adjust the air line pressure down to say, 25-50 psi at the most. Never run a gun higher than than what is labeled on it ( or the instructions that came with it) get some white cardboard and practice playing around with the thing until Your OK with spraying on a vertical surface a nice film that won't run, cause nobody can really just pick up a gun and paint perfect with it, unless They know it well... make sure You thin the paint too, it will be about water- thin when mixed correctly..... I hold a light in one hand %26amp; paint with the other so I can SEE how thick It is going on. You want a nice heavy film, that won't run. At least 2 coats, spraying one direction and then the other(or follow the directions, I at least read them for guidance-

take Your time, spraying is the fastest, easiest part...good luck, Man!
25 - 40 psi max otherwise at 125 you will paint everything at once when the gun explodes

I have had matt paint thrown over my car how do i get it off?

degreaser best thing if it doesnt work use sand paperI have had matt paint thrown over my car how do i get it off?
A good scrubbing w/lots of car wash soap should do it, just use a rag. If u must use sandpaper, make sure it's the automotive type and like 2000 grit, with water, not dry. Wax car afterward.I have had matt paint thrown over my car how do i get it off?
In the body shop we would use paper towels and lacquer thinner. No,it won't harm the factory paint.
    Isn't matt paint water based?

If so, you should be able to simply wash it off.
A little paint thinner or lacquer on a rag will take it off.
it depends on what kind of paint..and how long its been there...please clairfy
Isn't that water based? If so just wash it off with some good scrubbing.
    sand paper

Paint is peeling from all over the top of my car? what can i do to either repair it or make it alittle less?

to repair or alittle less noticablePaint is peeling from all over the top of my car? what can i do to either repair it or make it alittle less?
The only way to correct the problem is to have it refinished by a professional. With the clear coat pealing, the base coat is exposed and eroding. Then the primer will fail and then rust starts. It may seem expensive to repair, but it will save you a bundle in the long run.Paint is peeling from all over the top of my car? what can i do to either repair it or make it alittle less?
is it paint or clear coat? i had clear coat coming off the roof on my car and i took a razor blade and scraped it off, sanded it down and spray painted it.

  • About how much would it cost to get my car painted red? Nothing special. Just a new coat.?

Starting out at around $200 for ';Earl Sheib'; paint hjob, - (that is a ';cheapie';,- where they mask trim instead of taking it off). It depends on city, and how much competition, - right now in my area MAACO is advertising for $279, -- the ';cheapie generally uses the same paint, etc.,- but it is not a ';quality ';problem, it is fact that no matter how well it is cleaned up, there is a small amount of dust/dirt trapped right at edge of masking (becasue of adhesive on tape). Depending on where you live, and how much snow, ice, and mud you regularly drive through, - after a period of time the paint will start to peel away from edges of trim! Check locally, and see how many cars seem to have this problem, (and if possible ask when they had it painted)! Cheapie paint jobs are common in used car business, because they can present car with really nice looking paint, and no scratches (or dings)... but 2-3 years down the road, the paint starts peeling back and it doesn't look too good anymore!

For instance if your car is white and you have it painted red, it will look awful whan the paint starts peeling back! Buit if it is same color as before, - and you keep it clean and polished, it probably will be real hard to see unless you get real close and check it out!

The ';good paint job'; at same place will run about $250-350 more, but will probably still be looking good 4-5 years later! Of course, you need to remember if you plan on getting rid of it in a couple years, then ';cheapie'; paint problems arrive on next owner, - not you!

And of course the ';super'; quality paint job will run you maybe $1000 or more, - but it will be painted so well, - that you can't open doors and look in inner areas of door openings and see old color anywhere, most people won't be able to tell (if that is the origional color), unless they look at the information tag on firewall, -( which has origional paint numbers on it)!About how much would it cost to get my car painted red? Nothing special. Just a new coat.?
well you can't just paint over the old paint you have to have it sanded down and then primed and painted and then a clear coat ,So at least a couple of 100.00.About how much would it cost to get my car painted red? Nothing special. Just a new coat.?
This will blow your mind: http://rollyourcar.com/default.aspx

There's been a few guys thats done this. Its cheap and a LOT of work due to all the sanding required.

A site where i can play with paint & rims on any car i want to.?

I can't help you with the paint but if you go to the Tire Rack website, www.tirerack.com, you might be able to check out your wheels on your car. It all depends if they have your specific vehicle in their database. If not you can possibly find a similar body style and compare the pictures that it shows you.

I put the link below.A site where i can play with paint %26amp; rims on any car i want to.?
Do you mean where you have pictures of cars and and you can click and change the colors and wheels to see how a car would look?

I do not know of such site, but I think it would be a good thing to have. Sounds like fun. Great idea.

I'm sure there's a computer program capable of doing it, probably car manufacturers use something like this. And some car manufacturers sites let you do it for the cars they sell, but not any cars, just their new cars and only for paint colors.

You can do it in Photoshop or other photo editor, of course, but you have to do it manually, get pictures of many cars, no... too much work. It will take forever to do several cars. Your idea is better. I wonder if somebody knows of something like this.

On gta sanadreas how do u customize your own car like mak it have big rims and nice interior and cool paint?

    Paint scraped off my car?

my mom was driving my new honda accord, and she backed up into a mailbox..but she scraped a minimal peice of the paint off..and well it's not that noticable since my car is black, but still how can i fix it up how it used to be?Paint scraped off my car?
With Touch up paint and a buffer, but if you don't know what you are doing I would get it professionally done, it probably wouldn't be much.Paint scraped off my car?
you can peel off a little chip along with your VIN # (if it's the original paint) and bring it to an auto paint or body shop and they will give you the exact type of paint you need to do it yourself (or get them to do it). Usually all black paint will be the same, no matter what but get it checked to be sure. If you want to do it, basically sand down the scratched area with a fine peice of sand paper, clean it good, then tape it off the surrounding area with a certain type of tape you can get at the auto body shop while your there. After that, buy a can of powdercoat (usually red in colour which you can pick up at canadian tire if your want) and spray a few layers, letting it dry for about 24 hours each coat. Once that's done, spray 1 or 2 layers of paint over that letting it cure for about 24 hours. Once you see that it's fully dry, take off the tape and use a buffer and buff it out to ensure a smooth finish. It takes while, but it will save you money in the end if you really want an original look. Good luck!
They sell those little bottles of auto paint at car stores like AutoZone or O'Reilly's ...

It's like a little tube of nail polish you just paint on. Since your car is black, you probably won't have trouble trying to match it. Just paint a little inconspicuous spot before you do the whole thing.

    I think they're around $12.
Buy a little jar of paint, Honda can supply you with these just go to one of their garages and enquire there.
Touch up paint may work if you do it properly and if it's not badly damaged.
I hope you're going to fix the mailbox too?
    touch up paint, duh.
go to auto zone and look for a scratch repair kit. they make them for all colored vehicles

How much is it to get a cars paint stripped then have it re-painted the same color?

maybe at a place like maacoHow much is it to get a cars paint stripped then have it re-painted the same color?
15 years ago, I had a 68 Corvette sanded down and painted the same color for $3200. It was better than average. I was happy.

Very few jobs will require paint to be stripped extensively. How much is it to get a cars paint stripped then have it re-painted the same color?
you can do a rough job in 4 hours or so with a good sander or two, simplist way is to mask off the chrome bits and pieces as well as the windows, you may have to stoop to handsanding some areas that the sander wont reach. They might give you a discount at most paint shops, find someone who has a home spray booth they might shoot it for $200 or so if you do the prep and sand work, and choose a color they like or one that is basic and cheap.
I got a paint job for my whole car priced in the beginning of the summer here in Ontario..it needed to be sanded (stripped) and repainted (no repairs)..I was quoted $5000. I can get it done for a couple of thousand, but it won't be as professional a job as the first quote. Shop around because it really varies place to place.
This is a project where if you were to purchase a good paint sprayer, you could easily do it yourself. With a little research and experimenting you can do it yourself. I stripped and painted my truck once. It was actually fun to do. I couldn't wait to get off work to get back to repainting it. I have never heard anyone say that they got a good paint job on thier car when they took to someone to do. So give it go. Good luck.
what car do you own? Remember to calculate the labor up to 5 times than the paint material cost then you can have the concept how much.

What do you need to know when giving your car a groovy paint job?

I've just gotten an super cute bright baby blue 1967 VW bug, and I've been considering painting some cool designs on it...like a sunflower here, a peace sign there...

Anyways, what is the process for that? Is there a special type of paint you have to use? Do you have to sand the car down? What are good brushes to use? Any and all info you can give would be fantastic!

Also...all though I'm totally cool with unique (code for less than perfect) designs, say I did decide to go with the stencil route...are there any good websites for finding a wide variety of stencils? I'm looking for things like flowers, leaves, suns, etc....not flames and skulls.

Thanks so much! Peace and Much Love. What do you need to know when giving your car a groovy paint job?
well do you want a real job or just put crap on car?? all what you want. enamel is good, urethane is the new wave paint, stencils well try custom paint or bodyshop, or art supply sites, its if you want to riun your car for re-sale, i mean well will it sell later ,you might want a pro job but $$$ do it yourself and have fun so you will be proud you did it.
