How do i get a smooth, shiny look when i paint my car?

i am going to paint my car- decision is final. however, i dont want to buy all the equipment for a ';pro'; job (HPLV gun, expensive paint...). what i would like to do is just use some duplicolor spryapaint.

my car has some fading black paint so i just want to get it looking decent for a while until i have the money for a real paint job.

anyway, in the past i have use duplicolor and i never got a really shine or smooth texture. it looks semi glossy but the surface is very rough.

am i missing a step here? can i get a smooth shiny texture by using duplicolor? How do i get a smooth, shiny look when i paint my car?
Well firstly surface preperation is vital. You have to spend a long time going over it with some wet and dry sandpaper and water. Start at a moderatly course grit and work your way to the finest. Then once your base is as smooth as you can get it you need to find a dust free place to paint it. Dust really ruins a paint job because it settles on top and ruins the finish. This is the hard part as to use spray paint you need good ventilation but if you do it outdoors your bound to have a serious dust problem. A proper spray booth with a good ventilation and dust filters on air intake is really what you need but this will set you back a lot of dollars too. The best I can suggest is at least find somewhere undercover and choose a wind free day.How do i get a smooth, shiny look when i paint my car?
when your using spray cans, you spray against the overspray, not away from it and when you spray, do a small section at a time, and you will get a shiny look and you wont see the overspray.
you have to put a glossy clearcoat over the paint..
Use Car Gloss! It really works!
