Iv just painted a panel on my car but it looks quite dull against the other paint can anybody help me please?

G'Day clark522@btinte,

Golden rider is right, if the paint is metallic you must clear coat and wet sand, dry and clean between coats. Just a tip, when you start your clear coats, start with colour and a little clear and gradually increase the amount of clear and reduce the amount of colour each coat until you are using full clear coats. This should take 4 coats for the transition and a further 4 of straight clear. This will give depth of colour and a good foundation to buff to a nice shine. (be careful on the edges and profiles as the paint goes on thinner here)Iv just painted a panel on my car but it looks quite dull against the other paint can anybody help me please?
You need to wet sand the paint with real fine sandpaper and then clear coat it. Then wetsand the clearcoat. Make sure the surface is clean and dust free before appying the clearcoat.Iv just painted a panel on my car but it looks quite dull against the other paint can anybody help me please?
Yes, please view this online video and get a better understanding of what makes auto paint shine!

you don't say what paint u have used, sounds like it could be a base colour coat which will dry satin or matt ,you should not flat this coat with sanding paper the laquer should be applied as soon as the base coat is touch dry,if you leave it to long the laquer may not stick properley so you may have to re prep the surface and start again.if it was not a base colour and it was a direct gloss it won't need a laquer and just needs a machine polish with a g3 or g6 grade compound .
Where did you get the paint? Have you used a spray can or a spray gun?

If there is a major colour difference you may have to apply a top coat of clear coat to bring up the shine.

The other alternative is to leave the car for a couple of days so the new paint can completely harden. Then using a polishing mop clean up the paint on the new door and on the surfaces around the door until the paint matches.
I don't know how much you know or how much you want to spend so it's kind of hard to answer. One mistake I've made in painting panels is not spraying enough paint. If you do only 1 or 2 light coats, you get kind of a dull matte finish, but if you spray the whole panel and then go over it again right away with a heavier coat you can spray an area until you see the paint shine. Be careful though, its a fine line between glossy and runny.

This technique works with rattle can or pro sprayer.
the best thing you can do is check out tystanic custom paint and body.the web adress is www.tystanic.com
