Advantages to getting car painted?

HI - I have a 1991 tan (gold) Nissan Maxima, 128K miles - great car, great shape, no accidents, no rust. However, this winter it will be in the salt and ice and snow more and im wondering if I should get it repainted to help protect it and prevent rust etc? Is this a reasonable thing to do? Is there something else I should be considering doing? I'm trying to take care of it as it drives great and looks great and I'm hoping to keep running and looking great for another 50K miles. Thanks very much.Advantages to getting car painted?
having the car repainted will help protect it from rust. the tiniest knick or rock chip in your paint that allows bare metal to show is a opening for rust to form, now whether this is going to be cost effective or not for you is up to you, it isn't going to be cheep, if you go with a reputable shop you will probably be looking at at least $200 per panel and due to sun fade your probably going to be looking at painting the whole car if you want a good color match. if it were my car i would skip the painting and just try your best to wash off the salt and road grime as often as possible. as for the rust proofing that the other people are talking about, all cars come from the factory with this. its called undercoating and putting more on probably wont help at all, plus this only protects the back side of the metal, if there is exposed metal on the front of the panel you will still get rust.Advantages to getting car painted?
I will only make it shinny. Paint does not protect the other side of the metal where rust starts. A better protection would be to have it rust proofed at one of those sites like Rust Check, Or Crown Rust, or god forbid, Zeibart. A $100 or so.
